Overview

The SOLAR Transnational Cooperation project “Sustainable reduction Of carbon footprint Level in program AiRports” was led by the Mobility Infrastructure Section of the Puglia Region, financed with 688,500.00 euros by the Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro 2014-2020 Program and involved Aeroporti di Puglia SPA (Italy), Airports of Montenegro (Montenegro), the Civil Aviation Authority of Albania (Albania) and the Regional Development Agency of Molise - Sviluppo Italia Molise S.p.A. (Italy).
The objectives of the collaboration between Puglia Airports, the Puglia Region and their international partners from January 2022 were to:
• neutralize CO2 emissions through energy efficiency programs;
• transform airports into sustainable and efficient places for the environment by reducing carbon emissions;
• promote the exchange of good practices in the Adriatic basin area;
• create the "carbon footprint report" (report on the carbon footprint), the "low energy plan" (energy efficiency plan);
• study the connections and transport between Puglia and Molise.
These objectives were summarized and discussed in Bari on September 28th during the final event of the activities, which also saw the participation of important stakeholders such as Anita Maurodinoia (Regional Councillor for Transport and Sustainable Mobility of Apulia Region), Chiara Campanile (Project Officer of Interreg IPA CBC Italy-Albania-Montenegro 2014-2020 Programme), Antonio Maria Vasile (President of Airports of Puglia), Vito Antonio Antonacci Director of Department of Mobility of Apulia Region, Irene di Tria (Head of Mobility Infrastructure Section Apulia Region) and all the partners’ representatives.
The activities implemented during the project had the aim of systematizing information on very current issues related to the ecological transition and transport infrastructures, as well as foreseeing actions and good practices aimed at the overall reduction of total CO2 emissions to obtain the ACA (Airport Carbon Accreditation) level 1 and 2 certification.
